Commissioning & Scanning

How do I prove to my client that I successfully installed all DALI devices?

    Short answer

Use ProbitSite to run a non-invasive SmartScan of the DALI line, then connect the device to a Windows PC and open the ProbitSite App. The app turns the scan into a supplier-neutral PDF test report that lists every found device, address, signal quality and bus health. Send that PDF to your client as proof. Test the DALI segment on its own before you connect the KNX, Casambi or other gateway, so any DALI-side problems are documented separately from the higher-level system.

Why proof matters before gateway integration

When DALI is paired with KNX, Casambi, BACnet or another building system, the gateway often becomes the focus of commissioning. If lights do not respond later, the client sees a controls problem, not a DALI problem. Testing the DALI segment independently gives you a baseline report that shows the bus was healthy and every device was present before the gateway was added.

Step 1: Test the DALI segment on its own

Disconnect any application controller or gateway from the DALI line. Connect ProbitSite directly to the bus and run a SmartScan. This lists every device with short address, random address, device type, GTIN and firmware version, without changing the configuration. Check signal quality and bus voltage while you are connected.

Step 2: Connect ProbitSite to the PC and open the app

Power down or disconnect ProbitSite from the bus, then connect it to a Windows PC via USB-C. Start the ProbitSite App. The app reads the stored scan data from the device and prepares it for reporting.

Step 3: Generate the PDF test report

In the ProbitSite App, select the scan you want to document and choose the report export. The app produces a supplier-neutral PDF that contains the device list, bus voltage, signal quality and any warnings. Save the PDF with a clear file name that includes site, date and DALI line reference.

Step 4: Send the report to your client

Attach the PDF to your handover e-mail or place it in the project documentation folder. The report is objective evidence that the DALI installation was complete and healthy at the time of testing, before integration with KNX, Casambi or another system.

    Good to know

    - Run the scan again after any major wiring change or after the gateway is connected, so you can compare before and after states. - If the report shows warnings, resolve them first. A PDF with yellow or red signal quality is still proof, but it proves the line needs attention.
